Faculty Bio
Dr. Duncan Maclean
Assistant Professor, Philosophy
I teach Philosophy courses at St. Mary’s, including Logic, Philosophy of Art, Metaphysics, and Epistemology. I teach courses in the Liberal Studies degree program, such as Ways of Seeing, Ways of Knowing (LBST 301), and I am the pre-law pathway faculty mentor – let me know if you are interested in going to law school someday.
My research is on Aristotle and how we may apply his philosophy to issues in environmental philosophy. In effect, I am trying to figure out if it is fair to call Aristotle an environmental philosopher, even though he lived 2300 years ago, and to see if he offers “new” ways of think about our relation to non-human nature.
